Ceramic Spooktacular Workshop | Saturday Sept 19

Celebrate the upcoming Halloween season with these spooky clay projects at Studio Manzanita!

When you sign up, you can choose from 3 different Halloween projects. Join us for:

Pumkpins and Jack-o-lanterns 10 - 11:30 AM

In this handbuilding workshop, you’ll create a your own ceramic pumpkin to carry you through the fall season, or bring it to life by carving in a frightening face!

Haunted House Luminary 2 - 3:30 PM

In this workshop, participants will be provided with pre-fabricted leather hard houses ready for carving out shapes to make a luminary. Personalize your haunted house by carving out windows, doors, or even creepy charicters like bats, cats, ghosts and more! You’ll also get the chance to sculpt extra landscape features as well!

Ghosts 4 - 5:30pm

In this handbuilding workshop, learn how to create ghostly forms through slab construction! You can personalize your ghosts even further through painting on underglaze to give them color and personality.

No experience necessary, all tools, materials, instruction and fireing services included. Open to all ages *8+

Please allow up to 4 weeks for your work to be ready for pick up.

*No unaccompanied minors* youth under the age of 18 must be with a legal guardian.

Our studio offers many beginner classes in both wheel and hand building techniques. These are perfect for folks who are ready to begin their journey in ceramics and working with clay.

If you’re just wanting to dust yourself off from a long hiatus or want to challenge yourself, we offer intermediate wheel, hand building and portrait sculpture classes.

Beginning Wheel Throwing : 5 weeks | Wednesdays 6p - 9p | 10/7 - 11/18

Learn the basics of “throwing” on a pottery wheel. No experience necessary! In this course you will learn the process of creating art on the wheel from centering to glazing and how to create cups, bowls and other forms: perfect forms to start your wheel throwing journey!

CLASS DATES:

Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28 Nov. 18

(No class Nov. 4th or 11th)

You will have five lessons within a six week period to allow us to fire your pieces.

All tools, glaze, 25 lbs of house clay and equipment provided.

Intermediate Wheel I: 5 weeks Thursdays 6pm - 9pm | 10/8 - 11/12

Level up your throwing skills in our intermediate class! Reccomended for anyone who’s taken an introductory throwing course and feels confident with centering and throwing cylnders. In this 5 week course, you’ll learn to throw larger and with more clay (up to 5 lbs), and make consistent shapes through creating matching sets like stackable bowls, cups or plates.

Oct. 8, 15, 22, 29 Nov. 12 (No class Nov. 3)

You will have five lessons within a six week period, to allow us to fire your pieces before you glaze them.

Five free open studio session passes included with this class - so you can practice what you learn during any of our open studio hours

Intro to Ceramics: 6 weeks | Tuesdays 10am - 1pm | 10/6 - 11/17

Ready to start your journey with clay but not sure if you want to try the wheel or hand building first? This course is the perfect solution for you. We will introduce you to both beginner wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques for a well rounded experience. You will learn the A - Z process of transforming wet clay to finished glazed work, with opportunities to make both sculptural and functional ceramic art!

This class is perfect for total beginners, or folks looking to dive back in after a long hiatus.

Your class includes one 25lb bag of clay, 6 open studio passes, all necessary tools, firing and galze.

What you learn: Wheel (3 days)

Wheel throwing is a great method for creating pottery, typically associated with creating cups, bowls, vases and other functional ware. Students will learn wheel essentials such as: Wedging, centering, pulling forms, and trimming.

What you learn: Handbuilding (2 days)

Handbuilding is everything made with clay off the wheel and includes learning multipule techniques to create sculptures and functional ware alike!

Students will learn handbuilding techniques such as: slab construction, coilbuilding and texture.

What you will learn: Glaze (1 day)

After a week break to allow for work to be fired, students will learn about surface design, glazing, techniques and the many options for finishing a piece of work.

Youth Ceramics Course: 5 weeks | Tuesdays 6-8pm | 10/6 - 11/10

Introduce the love of ceramics to your child with this multi week ceramics course! With hands on instruction, students will learn the steps and skills necessary to create ceramic artwork through wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques.

This 5 session course provides all materials, tools, firing and is open to all levels; no experience necessary!

What you learn: Wheel (2 days)

Wheel throwing is a great method for creating pottery, typically associated with creating cups, bowls, vases and other functional ware. Students will learn wheel essentials such as: Wedging, centering, pulling forms, and trimming.

What you learn: Handbuilding (2 days)

Students will learn handbuilding techniques such as: slab construction, coilbuilding and surface design through underglaze and more.

What you learn: Glazing (1 day)

After a 1 week pasue to bisque fire class work, students will return to the studio and learn how to properly glaze their pieces.

Monthly Membership
$210.00 every month for 1 year

Experienced potters looking for a space to create are encouraged to sign up for our studio memberships! With a membership, you are joining our welcoming community of artists and makers and establishing a creative home for your practice. Memberships also include:

  • Unlimited studio access during our open studio times.

  • Unlimited firing of pieces made in studio (*within size limits)

  • Full access to all studio tools and equipment

  • Access to all house glazes

  • Individual storage space

  • Two $10 monthly guest passes

  • May bring 1 youth for free*

  • First dibs on workshop registration.

Age: 18+

*Open studio is a non-instructional working period. Those interested in memberships must have prior experience and be able to work safely and independently during open studio times.

*Youth welcome so long as you are constantly monitoring and attending to them and take responsability for any risks that may occur.

Open Studio

Dedicated non-instructional work time available for members and students to drop in anytime during our open hours.

With 12 wheels, several large work tables and plenty of storage space for your in-progress works, you can work at your own pace and enjoy the full use of our facilities.

*Scheduled classes and workshops get priority use of wheels and tables during their session. (see details on membership page)

Wanna take things slower? Hand building offers many methods in creating functional and sculptural ceramic work without the wheel! Create a wine goblet, mug or other beverage vessel using hand building techniques!
