    The Studio Manzanita Ceramic Studio Technician reports directly to the Assistant Director/ Studio Manager and assists with the upkeep and maintenance of the studio, equipment, supplies and supports general operations. The studio technician is a reliable, consistent and responsible individual  and experienced ceramicist who is proficient in the use and operation of standard tools, equipment and materials in a pottery studio (some studio specific training will be provided).   This role requires a deep understanding and solid practice of handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques and respect for studio cleanliness and organizational guidelines. An excellent candidate for this position shares our belief that art is best created in community and displays a naturally confident, sociable  and warm personality to engage with our members and students, ready to offer guidance or connect with them as needed. This role requires

    • teaching wheel throwing and hand building classes to beginners with a range of 11-15 people per class max

    • Monitoring and operating studio on your own during scheduled classes or open studio time


    Additional responsibilities: 

    Studio tech role description serves as an inclusive list of duties, not an exhaustive list. Other duties may be required on an as-needed basis. 

    • collaboration with marketing/social media admin and assistance in content creation

    • opportunities to develop and propose programing for classes and workshops

    • assist visiting artists in classes/ workshops as needed

    • the tech role has a set schedule with select nights and weekends required. Flexibility is a plus


    Minimum qualifications: 

    • Two or more years of recent education in ceramics and pottery studio experience. 

      • must be able to throw on a wheel

    • Ability to load, unload and  operate a kiln

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more

    • Operational knowledge of standard ceramic studio tools. (some training provided) 

    • Excellent communication skills


    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • A BFA or higher degree in visual art with an emphasis on ceramics/ sculpture

    • Clay and glaze mixing knowledge

    • Practicing artist

    • Teaching experience with adults, especially throwing on a wheel

    • Skilled in other process based art practices such as: textiles, jewelry, printmaking OR a strong curiosity for learning new techniques across many mediums


    Benefits & Compensation: 

    • Hours: Approx 15-20 hrs per week starting out

    • Pay: $25 per hr

    • Free studio access and use during operational hours 

    • Dedicated storage for work and tools


    Position starts in March 2026 with exact starting date provided with 2-3 week notice.
