Community Event: Sari Day Fundraiser | Oct. 18 | 6-8pm

$10.00

Join us to celebrate India's iconic textile, the sari.

Whether you are already familiar with saris or would like to learn more about this beautiful garment, you will learn something new!

Sari Day will include:

-  a basic weaving demonstration,

- a discussion and display of various handweaving traditions from all over India with Dr. Huma Ghosh, SDSU Professor Emerita

- an interactive session with SD Nari for you to learn to drape your sari.  In both, the traditional drape or new/niche drapes!

- an opportunity to raid SD Nari's trove of gently used saris and perhaps even an impromptu fashion show

Bring a friend and enjoy a cup of chai and snacks compliments of Chaiwale while celebrating saris. Chaiwale is San Diego’s first South Asian Chai cafe serving chai and light bites and based in Sorrento Valley

Sari day is a fundraiser for SD Nari, a non-profit that empowers women of South Asian origin in San Diego.  Your $10 registration fees go directly to SD Nari to support their mission as described here: https://sdnari.org

Attire:

Wear whatever you are comfortable with! If you have a sari that you love and would like to share, we would be thrilled!

If you want to learn to drape a sari, come in a tshirt and skirt or pants (tightly fitted at the waist) and we will have saris for you to buy and drape!

* we are a working ceramic studio with dust.  We are doing our best to prepare our space for textiles!  Please keep that in mind when you select your outfit!
